Those who prefer beaches might fancy the eastern and northern shires, but coo, we love camping in West Yorkshire. If all it had were the moors, Brontëland and the Brontë Parsonage Museum, Saltaire Village World Heritage Site and the oldest working railway in the world, we’d still be puffing there faster than Heathcliff desperately searching for Cathy.
But West Yorkshire also has Leeds, in our not so humble opinion one of the best cities for nightlife (and shopping) in the UK… and Halifax, for skiing and snowboarding then sloping off to the Eureka! The National Children's Museum… and the Merrie City of Wakefield, with the world’s first nature reserve at Walton Hall and the changing exhibitions of the open-air Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Book a West Yorkshire campsite and doing urban activities on day trips, or stick to the wild countryside for moor hikes and old village visits, rock climbing and wildlife watching, canoeing and fishing in the Upper Calder Valley… Digging the sound of a West Yorkshire family hol? The adventure park Diggerland is at Castleford too.
