Quite simply, to the seafront. And prepare to be away from your Prestatyn campsite from dawn to dusk. For here on the promenade is the eastern end of the North Wales Path, on which those so inclined can hike the 60 miles to Bangor (those not so inclined can amble the four miles from Prestatyn to Rhyl instead). Here be too where the Wales Coast Path joins the Offa’s Dyke Path – 870 miles and 170 miles of coast and Wye Valley walking respectively, although those also not inclined for the full routes can hike the 4.5 miles to Talacre Beach (former) or the 12 miles to Bodfari (latter).
Also quite simply when camping in Prestatyn, to the beach. (And again prepare to be away from base from dawn to dusk.) Prestatyn has three beaches covering five miles of sand, and Welsh seaside capital Llandudno is about 40 minutes’ drive along the coast, passing Colwyn Bay and Rhyl along the way. Windsurfers and swimmers abound at Prestatyn’s award-winning and popular Central Beach, while sailors tend to float around Barkby Beach, with boat launching slipway and the HQ of Prestatyn Sailing Club.
