One of the most foamily famed surfing beaches in Wales is at Abersoch on the Llyn Peninsula – the devilish Porth Neigwl or Hell’s Mouth, dived into daily by surfers and kayakers of an experienced bent because of its high wild waves. Thinking that all the demons in the (under)world couldn’t drag you to try waves so high? Trickle to the gentler waves of Abersoch Bay instead for sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, wakeboarding…

Serious sightseers also come to Abersoch for trips to Bardsey Island or to seal and dolphin spot from the Llyn Coastal Path/sea fish along the Llyn; Snowdonia National Park is about 50 minutes’ drive away too. But do be sure to bring the surfboard, the kayak and the sailing togs along – probably not a good idea to travel to your Abersoch campsite by bus then...
