One of our very fave museums in the world is in Croatia.
The Museum of Broken Relationships in Croatian capital Zagreb is, we reckon, a genius concept, displaying all sorts of bits and pieces carefully labelled as to their significance in a relationship breakdown. Croatia, we've all been there. Sniff.
Lest this makes us sound cynical (the idea), we hasten to point out that the sights of Croatia consistently warm our travelly little hearts. For how could they not: there are reasons (many) why over 11 million clever wanderers visit this lovely land every year...
The Croatian National Tourist Board has wisely pointed out that the country's coastline is 'the Mediterranean as it once was' – and one can and should add to this such Croatian highlights as the smashing medieval city of Dubrovnik (and its smashing summer festival); the hundreds of islands of Zadar's Kornati National Park; the additionally stonking islands of Korcula, Krk, Hvar and Vis; eight national parks including two UNESCO listed, and many a type of leafy tree – did you know that nearly half of Croatia is swathed by forest?
Go camping in Croatia to get to all these and more (it's a small land, so we say one should traverse it as much as poss), via much Croatian wine and beer, yet more lakes and islands, several more old cities and spectacular scenery all around. Overwhelmed? Check out the Local attractions tab on each of our Croatian campsite listings for top picks on what to see and do.
