Lancs tops new caravan league

People in Lancashire bought more new caravans last year than any other part of the UK, say new stats from the National Caravan Council (NCC).
1,862 new caravans were bought by Lancashire residents in 2011, well ahead of second place county Derbyshire with 1,262 new purchases.
Other popular caravan counties were West, East and North Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Warwickshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.
The list was drawn up using data from the NCC-owned Caravan Registration & Identification Scheme, which has a national register of all tourers manufactured in the UK, and shows that people are still buying caravans even in the current economic climate, says the NCC.
The figures will be encouraging for manufacturers keen to show off new models at this autumn’s caravan and motorhome shows, including the Motorhome & Caravan Show in Birmingham in October.
If you’re thinking of buying a caravan or motorhome for the first time, or upgrading your current model, there are several other shows to browse around this summer and autumn as well as Birmingham:
The Western Motorhome Show, Worcestershire, 17-19 August
UK Caravan and Motorhome Autumn Fair, Nottinghamshire, 1-2 September

The Motorhome Show Season Finale, Lincolnshire, 21-23 September
The Static Caravan/Touring Caravan and Motorhome Show, Hampshire, 21-23 September
The Static Caravan/Touring Caravan and Motorhome Show, Devon, 6-7 October
