General
- Peaceful location in the Suffolk countryside
- Perfect for a romantic break or a family holiday
- In nine acres of private grounds overlooking a Grade II property
Even reading about this site has soothed our Pitchup.com city dwelling hearts... The yurts of Suffolk Retreats are less than an hour from London (and 40 minutes' drive from Stansted) and tick oh so many topping holiday boxes – they're in nine acres of private grounds overlooking a Grade II-listed property, on a serene site with horses and a miniature donkey. They also have owls and bats flitting overhead, and two reindeers resident on site being looked after for Santa...
You might also see the occasional deer roaming here and foxes and badgers generally prowl around at night. The grounds have a large pond teeming with over a thousand fish (no fishing allowed, but do toss in some bread or cake to see the nibbles) and flocks of birdlife such as swallows, blue tits, finches, woodpeckers and kingfishers. And then there's the croquet, the outdoor cricket and the giant chess and draughts... we would like to stay here for quite some time please.
The yurts at Suffolk retreats have been handcrafted to the high standards all the above might lead you to expect; each is set on a solid wooden base and comes with its own solid oak locking front door and carved oak window and woodburning stove for heating and cooking. All materials used inside and out are fire retardant.
And yet more: Suffolk Retreats also has a cosy games room with air hockey, darts, a TV, football and table tennis tables, and a fridge/freezer and microwave for guests' use.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can now make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children on one pitch.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
Large tents/caravans: check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit is suitable for the space you will be provided with.

Local attractions
Quite a bit is to hand to see and do in the area around Suffolk Retreats, like Suffolk's smallest town SuVisit Clare three miles away, Clare Priory and Country Park, or the antique shops, designer boutiques and traditional pubs of Cavendish.
History? The local town of Long Melford is best known for its two old buildings Kentwell Hall and Melford Hall, now managed by the National Trust; the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds is within easy reach, and nearby Lavenham is a smashingly well preserved medieval town with over 300 old buildings (you'll find comely tearooms and Marco Pierre White's The Angel pub here too).
More? Have at it at Hedingham Castle, the Colne Valley Railway, racing at Newmarket 40 minutes away, or having another punt on the river at Cambridge.
