Remember that bit in the first Harry Potter film, where the Hogwarts Express steamed enchantingly north from Plaform 9¾ over a most magnificent viaduct amidst most magnificent scenery? That was the Scottish Highlands, that was. Harry, Hermione and co probably should have packed a camera.
The featured train was the award-winning Jacobite, whose 84-mile journey from Ben Nevis has been described by Muggles as one of the world’s most magical railway journeys, and where we think you should hither Highlands-ly to from your Scottish Highlands campsite/Hogwarts. If we could wave a wand we’d be there now: Highlands camping is spellbinding.
What else to see? This is an utterly beaut park of the world and crammed with more things to see and do than japes at Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. There’s Fort William, for one, the outdoor centre for the adventurous… or spying Moray Firth dolphins on a boat trip from Inverness… or cruising around history sites like Culloden… or wandering around Highlands castles, the Cairngorms and Loch Lomond national parks and the Malt Whisky Trail… Or – always a favourite of relaxed Pitchup.com – simply sitting still to stare at captivating views. With some malt whisky.
