Really, it’s like someone read the collective minds of Pitchup.com and our collected interests when it comes to camping in Leicestershire. Motorbikes, pork pies, cheese, the Download Festival at Donington Park and history geekiness with a Plantagenet king buried under a car park are all here to keep us out of mischief for a lovely lengthy hol – and we’d be nicely placed too for bike rides and rambles around the Peak District to the north. Our favourite moody adolescent Adrian Mole lived in Leicestershire too, although he didn’t seem to like it much. Should have got out a bit more, Aidy.
So we’d have a rollicking good time roaring around Leicestershire by motorbike or watching the motory events and MotoGP at Donington, interspersed with occasional (hourly) breaks to sample Stilton and pies (happy sigh) and see Rick 3’s new resting place at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre. Handily for bike fans who ride to Leicestershire for events at Donington, the UK’s biggest motorbike manufacturer, Triumph, is in the county too: you could start saving up for a bike with all the cash you’ll save by booking a Leicestershire campsite instead of a hotel.
