If we could put a Hayle campsite anywhere, we’d put it above the three-mile run of golden beach and sandy dunes at Hayle’s Towans, leading on to surfing beach Gwithian. And positioned so guests could see one of Cornwall’s most famed landmarks, the view of Godrevy lighthouse on St Ives Bay’s Godrevy Head. Hike the South West Coast Path from Hayle along the 11 miles or so to Portreath to pass another famed Cornish landmark at Hell’s Mouth; pasty at the café there mandatory.
Or we might have Hayle camping near the pub. One of the most grisily named pubs in Britain, the Bucket of Blood, has its home in Hayle: opportunities should certainly be maximised to spoof the kids about what’s on the menu. Mollify them afterwards with a trip to squawk among the parrots, flamingos, pandas and farm animals at Hayle’s award-winning wildlife sanctuary Paradise Park, or to wander among the water birds at the RSPB reserve’s on the Hayle Estuary.
