What a beaut... Whether you want to settle down and charge your batteries among nature or keep bounding around in active manner, Albufeira do Maranhão Camping Park in the Portuguese municipality of Avis will see you sorted.
It's part of the Náutico de Avis Club and on the shores of Lake Albufeira: watery and land activities on site for the energetic include a sports area, windsurfing, canoeing and rowing alongside hiking and mountain biking, and if the thought of that is leaving you faint we'll quickly point out there's a beach, public pool and solarium here too. The ancient settlement of Avis, romantically described as the 'village of warrior monks', is two kilometres away.
If you do want to stick around on site for a restful stay, the bar and mini market will cover the essentials; there's also a games room, a playground, a picnic area and a restaurant.
The amenities block has loos, hot showers, disabled access and laundry services. Well-behaved dogs are most welcome to settle down for a stay here too – they're so welcome that there's even a canine WC.

Local attractions
Rent kayaks, bikes and watery equipment on site to tackle the surface of the lake if you're at Albufeira do Maranhão Camping Park on an energy surge; more of the active same along with boat tours and jetskiing is at Lake Montargil about 20 kilometres from here.
But if you're around for a restful stay, amble peacefully towards the village of Avis, a place that took an important role in Portugal's history and which has the architectural heritage to prove it. It's called the village of warrior monks as it was donated by Alfonso 2 to Fernão Anes, master of Portugal's only military order, and is filled with religious buildings such as the Convent of St. Benedict of Avis, the Pelourinho, the castle walls and its towers.
Anyone staying in Portugal within a couple of hours' drive of Lisbon will also get a firm recommendation from Pitchup.com to get there with some immediacy, and Albufeira do Maranhão Camping Park is about an hour and a half away. Among our many suggestions are the Museu do Teatro Romano/Roman Theatre Museum, Lisbon City Museum or just wandering around drinking in Lisbon's café culture – but do have at least two days in the city to find your own faves.

Albufeira do Maranhão Camping Park cancelation policy
High season, 01/06 - 15/09 and bank holidays (Carnival, Easter, and New Year’s Eve):
For cancellations more than 15 days before arrival, 25% of the balance will be non-refundable
No refunds within 14 days of arrival date.
Low season periods:
For cancellations more than 5 days before arrival, 25% of the balance will be non-refundable
No refunds within 4 days of arrival date.
If you need to cancel or amend your booking, please give as much notice as possible so that someone else has the chance to book. You may wish to buy holiday insurance for cancelations and for your property/injury whilst away.
Please note that your deposit is paid to Pitchup.com and is non-refundable.
