Wahey, it’s Weymouth! Set halfway along the Jurassic Coast, Weymouth is where you go to get your feet wet. It and Portland Harbour were the sailing venue for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, and there are bucketloads of watersports nearby, from surf schools and sailing to canoeing and kayaking, with scuba diving, kite surfing and more all abounding too.
Weymouth is equally well-known for its safe sandy beach and Georgian seafront – it was made famous as a tourist destination by George III who took to its seas in the hope they’d cure his frequent bouts of madness (alas, no). While there, give the sandcastlers in the family an inferiority complex by showing them the celebrated Weymouth sand sculptures, then clamber up to Lodmoor Country Park over Weymouth Bay for the Sea Life Centre and RSPB reserve among mini golf and a miniature railway. There’s wey more to do in Dorset as a whole too – have a look at our guide to the Jurassic Coast for some inspiration.
We reckon you’ll need at least a week (or three), so use our filters to find your perfect Weymouth holiday park or campsite – you can search by amenities on site, price, leisure nearby, rules, utilities and more, using dozens of options.
