If you’re camping in High Peak, Derbyshire, we’ll loftily assume you’re also planning a stop at Kinder Scout. The scene of the 1932 Mass Trespass (hurrah) is the highest point in all the Peak District, all of Derbyshire and all the East Midlands: if the weather is kind, climbers can drink in views of Manchester, Bolton and Snowdonia along with their cocoa when they reach the top.
It’s a National Nature Reserve too, so keep your peepers peeled for mountain hares among the heath, and for red grouse, peregrine falcons and other feathery inhabitants above.
Peruse our High Peak campsites for other walks around the High Peak moorland – pubs are included too – as well as National Trust properties, must-sees, local cycle routes and nearby events and festivals. If you’re sticking to sightseeing by feets, the 17.5 miles of the traffic-free High Peak Trail runs from Cromford to Dowlow six miles from Buxton, or join the Tissington Trail at Parsley Hay for a 13-mile trek to Ashbourne.
