The Kent Downs, the warm climes and the chalkiness of the White Cliffs of Dover – and a county easy to nip to from London, to boot. And then there are the seaside towns of Margate, and Ramsgate, and Whitstable (oysters!) and Herne Bay…And the history: Dover and Kent were two of the Cinque Ports of Henry Eight and the county as a whole has old houses, castles, mills and museums abounding.
