We’d say don’t go on holiday here if you don’t like champagne, but we know everyone likes champagne. Camping in the Champagne-Ardenne region of north-eastern France is a corking choice for those who like their fizz – the champagne vineyards here export their bottles all over the world, its gracious inventor Dom Pérignon is from the region, and fizz fans have five champagne trails, champagne capital Épernay and around 80 visitor centres at which to get their buzz on.
But! We’d fall flat as guides if we didn’t mention the many other things you’ll find from a Champagne-Ardenne campsite. Eighteen museums, 16 theatres, eight lakes for watersports and fishing including Europe’s biggest manmade lake, the Lake Der-Chantecoq, are in Champagne-Ardenne for popping along to, and ancient city Reims has the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims where France’s kings were once crowned. Something to make the kids bubbly too – Nigoland, Grinoland and other theme and adventure parks are in Champagne-Ardenne, with celebrated experiences including treetop adventure, a children’s village, zip lines and a huge maze.
