We don’t mean camping in Richmond in California. Or a Richmond campsite in San Francisco. Or the Richmonds in Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Melbourne or Jamaica, or even the one in London. While they’re all jolly nice places, and we hope to have campsites there sometime soon, we mean the first ever Richmond and one of our global faves, Richmond in North Yorkshire. Go.
Around 50 towns around the world have been named after Richmond the First, more than any other place name on the planet, and it’s one of the most popular places to visit in North Yorkshire: go. It’s also a decidedly cunning town as its Station Centre combines an art gallery, heritage centre and cinema with a fudge house, honey maker and cheesemaker, which means you can have cheese at the cinema. Cheese. At the cinema.
Cheese, and honey, should also be taken to Richmond Castle and its views over the River Swale, the Theatre Royal and around the cobbled marketplace to see why this is the bestest Richmond of them all. Also decidedly cunningly, Richmond is between the North York Moors and North Yorkshire national parks: take that, San Francisco.
