Any informative blurb on Croyde must include one of our favourite facts about the North Devon seaside resort, which is that it has a deckchair cinema. Every seaside resort should have a deckchair cinema, we firmly believe – in fact, every town, city, rooftop space and pub in the country/world should have a deckchair cinema, and we would (possibly) vote for a political party including that in its manifesto. Possibly.
We have other favourite Croyde facts, namely that it has a National Trust-managed stretch of coastline with the delightful name of Baggy Point, and that it’s in a part of Devon known as the Gold Coast, which evokes the feeling of lying on a sandy beach just by rolling the name gently off a tongue. Like most of Devon north and south, Croyde is also a big watersports and surfing area with surf shops abounding; longboarders tend to head a mile or so along the coast to Saunton Sands. (Its beach was used in the video for Robbie Williams’ Angels, but don’t let that put you off.)
Beach-warbling aside, Croyde campsites will have all sorts of sandy and cultural attractions within reach of your mitts: we hear there’s a deckchair cinema there too.
