Pool Bridge Farm is home to a large six-acre grass site lined with ancient oak trees. Even though you’re in the middle of the countryside, it is only a 15-minute drive from historic York and all its museums, restaurants and riverside walks.

There are three lakes for wild (open-water) swimming, which is free for all guests. Lakeside saunas (open from Thursday to Sunday and on bank holidays) can be booked as an extra. Make your way to the on-site café (open from Thursday to Sunday, as well as bank holidays). As the site is a mini nature reserve dedicated to preserving local wildlife, guests also have the chance to spot barn owls and kestrels feeding next to the site.

Thanks to the lack of light pollution, the site is in a dark-skies area. You can be pottering around Rievaulx Abbey or living it up among the bright lights of York, but on a sunny evening, do try to get back to base at nightfall to indulge in a spot of stargazing while cosied up around your firepit.

Modern amenities include a well-maintained toilet and shower block a few minutes' walk from the pitches via a path along the bank of one of the swimming lakes, so take in the scenery as you stroll to the facilities (best bring a torch too).
