Fishing camping and caravan sites: reel them in

No need to carp on about never getting to go fishing when you're on holiday - at Pitchup.com we have reels of options for all anglers. Whether you want to go carp fishing or fly fishing, sea fishing or freshwater, fish on site or near your park, you can find a campsite, caravan park or holiday park that'll be the perfect plaice.

Sorry. We'll stop now, as we wouldn't want to flounder...No, reely, we've stopped now. Read on for tips on camping and fishing, campsites with fishing and all fishy facets...

We have hundreds of campsites and parks with fishing on site or nearby. For really avid anglers, we've put together a guide to fishing in the UK and Ireland, and there are shoals of sites all over where the fishing is taken properly seriously, such as:

Angler's tent by fishing lake

Wyreside Lakes FisheryLancashire

Pike, coarse and carp fishing are all available at six lakes at this Lancaster site. Plus there's an additional small lake for anglers under 12, a shop selling fishing essentials and meals to be had in The Fisherman's Rest.

Birchwood Fishing and CampingLincolnshire

Two lakes for carp, ghost carp (if you can see them), rudd, roach, tench and bream, with the whoppingest catch here weighing in at 26lb. And it's only two miles from Skegness if you prefer your fish battered.

Yet-y-Gors FisheryPembrokshire

There are four fishing lakes at this Pembrokeshire park to land carp, perch, tench, roach and bream, and there are fishing lessons available on site too for the truly clueless - you can also hire rods in the on-site shop.

Thurston ManorLothian

This award-winning site has a freshwater lake for fly fishing, and a heated pool, sauna, steam room and bar for after you land your catch.

More fishing campsites and how to hook them

If you’re after a more general type of campsite but still want to take in some fishing while you’re on holiday, you can look for sites with fishing nearby and use over 80 filters to find the one you want.

There's family friendly fishing so you can take the tiddlers, motorcycle-friendly sites for bikes and hooks, adults-only sites or ones which are open all year. You can also bring your dog to sites with fishing nearby (although train the pooch beforehand to play the 'Let's sit really quietly and not scare the fish' game).

For location, you can filter for fishing camping and caravan sites that are listed where student groups are welcome, in a wildlife havenluxury or budget/backpacker or in any area of the country - check out the many filter options on the search menus. If you catch our drift...

Slippery suggestions for camping and fishing holidays

  • Make sure you have all the necessary permits and paperwork to fish before you cast off, especially if you're going a bit off the beaten track.
  • Check in advance with very popular fishing campsites or areas to see if you need to reserve a time to fish.
  • Pack your fishing equipment well away from your camping equipment – a hook ripped through your nice new tent will not get the holiday off to a good start. Tinfoil is handy for wrapping hooks and sharp bits.
  • Camp as close as possible to where you’re fishing if you want to get those early biters.
  • Ask the campsite owner or staff where the best fishing spots are on and off site.
  • And obvious but essential: if you’re at a family park and the kids are old enough to roam around on their own, consider making the lake/river out of bounds unless there’s a designated and supervised young persons’ fishing area.
  • Fish tastes best with black pepper and lemon.
