Food, glorious food…if you don’t come back from a Dordogne camping holiday slightly (or significantly) heavier than when you set out, we respectfully submit that you’ve done it wrong. The gorgeous Dordogne river valley in the south-west region of Aquitaine is one of the top spots in France for delicacies of all types, from the foie gras of le Périgord to the wines of Bergerac (no, not the 80s TV series): make it your mission to try All the Things.
Historyheads are well placed here too, with old villages, over 1500 castles and the replica of the world famous prehistoric caves of Lascaux – there’s even a Prehistoparc theme park in the region pour les enfants. Searching for something more strenuous? Try canoeing down the Dordogne river, hiking the region’s hills and limestone cliffs or fishing, swimming, sports of all sorts - and of course, pétanque - at Dordogne campsites.
